What kind of socks do you wear?

What kind of socks do you wear?
Most days I wear black no shows
I mean, I am a millennial
I do confess that I no longer match my socks before putting them in my drawer
So the black no shows that I’m currently wearing–sort of match
I mean, kind of. Both socks are black–they just happen to be rocking a different colored label
Does this bother me? Not really.

White socks… especially high white socks, are a no go for me.
I tried–and I just can’t wear them.
I feel like it goes against everything I learned about wearing socks
Which is… if you wear sneakers, your socks should be hiding.
If you wear low cut boots, your socks should be hiding.

Except for winter, then you can break out the high socks
And in the winter, I love to wear colorful wool socks
They mostly hide behind my pants…
But they’re warm and comfortable and fun
In fact, I have always loved fun socks
Obnoxiously bright? Yes!
Big bold stripes of color? Yes!
Covered in donuts? Yes!
Includes a funny joke? YES!
The wittier, the punnier the better!
Crazy sock day at school–it’s a favorite.

Sometimes I wear the fun ones just because
It’s the little things that bring you joy, right?
And fun socks, well they bring me joy.

What’s the metaphor here? Is there one?
What do the socks I wear say about me?
Maybe the black no shows mean I’m old?
What does it mean if I’m okay with wearing mismatched socks and I’ve given up matching socks? Does this symbolize something? I mean they’re not always mismatched.
What about the fun ones?
I don’t know. Is there a metaphor here? Maybe.
