Fantastical Books

Day 17 of the March Slice of Life Challenge hosted by the Two Writing Teachers! #SOL25

My student teacher helped me pull and shift my classroom library today to highlight and give students easy access to all of the fantastical novels we have.

Ta-da! Look at our beautiful work!

Graphic novels are not pictured. They are located in another section of our class library. We did pull and display them. 🙂

Now that March Book Madness voting is in full swing, we are ready to kick-off fantasy! I cannot wait to introduce our next class read aloud… Dun dun duuuunnnn! The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier! It’s an oldie but a goodie. Jonathan Auxier’s words lure readers in–daring them to read more, filling their minds with questions. What’s behind the green door at the top of the stairs? What is really happening to the Windsor family? Why does the dark tree out front appear to be growing into the dilapidated house? Who is the Night Gardener?

The theories, conversations, and engagement never ceases to amaze me. I love how this unit highlights all of the amazing skills readers have been working on throughout the school year in their literature texts. Happy reading!

  1. Fantastical books are always my favorite! Your shelves look wonderful and your kids are so lucky to have a great classroom library and the opportunity to do March Book Madness voting. I hope they are really enjoying themselves.
