Do you ever find yourself watching a kids show on your own at night just because you want to see it uninterrupted?
No? Just me?
I must have a bad case of FOMO because I cannot stand to “miss out” on something others have.
Those new episodes of Bluey? I could probably recite them to you because I’ve heard them play in the back of the car on repeat. But have I actually watched the animation? Nope.
So when I wasn’t feeling well today and my daughter wanted to rewatch a series she started on Thursday while I was at inservice so I only caught pieces of the last few episodes, I 100% cuddled up on the couch with her and we watched the entire thing.
Now I can understand why the girl was mean, why the other was lying to her mom, and how the relationship with grandfather developed over time.
Phew.
It’s not like I need to know this for a future Jeopardy episode, but it helps me relate to my kid.
Also, it gave us the opportunity to know that she can come to me for anything, even if it means there will be consequences- but we will make a plan together. A life lesson thanks to the kid lying to the parent for fear of disappointment.
So really, I was just doing a solid bit of parenting today.
