Childhood Dreams

I’ll take you back to my childhood where I was deprived of a living pet.

(Yes- that is resentment you hear in those words).

If you recall, after years of letter writing, hoping, and praying- I received a robotic fish for my birthday one year.

Talk about disappointment.

My mom still thinks it was an awesome idea.

Unfortunately, the universe decided to laugh at me when the number 1 item on both of my kids’ Christmas list this year was…a robotic turtle (friends with the robotic fish).

Needless to say, my mother felt vindicated.

Seeing that we are unable to have a furry friend due to severe allergies for my oldest, I caved and got the robotic fish.

While the kids were happy to unwrap this item Christmas morning, we were all disappointed when we realized this piece is technology had not improved in the last 25 years. It was cheap and not exciting.

Fast forward to today when my oldest turns 8. She is still too young to fully appreciate the experience gift, but old enough to acknowledge she doesn’t want to ask for things she really doesn’t want. Thus, we were tasked with “surprising her”.

Does this mean she is now the proud parent of a living beta fish?

Yes. Yes it does.

Childhood dreams, albeit slightly modified, are now fulfilled.
