Buying books may be a weakness.
Buying books is always a necessity.

You can never have enough books.
Readers deserve authentic opportunities to read.
Readers deserve authentic opportunities to share.
Readers need books. Books cost money.
Bookstores are therapy for my soul.
And a drain on my wallet.
Teachers Write 
I am in a book club and I buy books monthly. I have been trying to declutter so when I am done, I give them to someone else to read with the stipulation that they pass it on, too.

Yes! I tend to pass on “adult” books as well to friends and free little libraries around town. My husband laughs at me for calling them “adult” books. I tend to due the opposite for my classroom/students/own children… although I have gotten better at “weeding” books from classroom shelves at the end of a school year.

So true! But a good library helps! My local library is building a new branch close to my house! Can’t wait til it opens!

You are so right! A good library does help! I tend to buy more books for my classroom library than I do for my own personal reading. I’m thankful to live close to two great local libraries. That’s so exciting that you will have a new library close to your house. 🙂

I went to two book stores this past weekend. One on Saturday, another on Sunday. And books were delivered this week from purchases on line. Your poem made me laugh, and also admire the constrained creativity that this requires. A wonderful read about a shared love!

I used to resist using a Kindle but after moving from the house I lived in for 18 years I have greatly reduced the number of physical books I buy. I love the idea of six word sentences. I might try that with my 2nd graders.

I haven’t broken down yet and bought a kindle, but when we are on vacation, I tend to read more books on my phone. I prefer to read books that I can hold; there’s just something about holding a book and physically flipping the pages. It’s funny… I used to hold on to all of the books that I purchase, but now the books that I do purchase I usually pass on to friends or little libraries around town. Now books for my classroom or own children is a different story… Thanks for stopping! I’m glad we’re on this slicing adventure together again!

Right!? I try to balance… and use classroom money… and well… it only goes so far, LOL! I’d love a book swap! I just picked up a few more titles from Barnes and Noble yesterday. I’ve set a personal goal to read titles that are just for me… I mean I’m not going to lie, I really do love middle grade texts AND… the number of “adult” books I’ve read since having my own children has really dwindled.

I love your slice- bookstores have always been my very favorite place to shop. I agree about nothing is like holding a book but as your eyes age change enlarging the kindle print helps so much!
