So today we were talking about the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill.
In case you need a refresher: Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after.
I was today years old when the perspective of a six year old knocked me over. Jack and Jill were carrying a pail of water. It was probably heavy. They dropped the pail, spilling the water, and slipping on it, thus tumbling down the hill.
In all my years….I had never considered the water being the reason Jack fell down. Never. I can’t even begin to think about what I thought as a child, and even as an adult, but I can guarantee you the thought of slipping on water never crossed my mind.
I learn something new everyday!
Oh wow – kids are so smart! The water put them off balance!

I have never thought of that either. Now I’m going to have to go back and rethink all the nursery rhymes I know–what else have I been missing all these years?! I love that phrase: “I was today years old”.
