It’s Monday (Time for the Chicken Nugget Song!)

When I woke up this morning, it felt like a Monday. You know, the I-don’t-want-to-get-out-of-bed kind of Monday. The kind of Monday where you hit your snooze button multiple times–because it’s cold and you’re warm under the blankets and there’s no way it’s really time to get up. And yet, somehow, we were all ready and out the door by ten after seven.

And then I came to school–the sun was shining, my coffee was brewing, and my students started to arrive. They were smiling and chatting and searching for the perfect lunch song. A new tradition had started last week–find a song about the main course of the day. Today our cafeteria was serving chicken nuggets. Need a little happiness in your life, listen to the Chicken Nugget Song. We had a good laugh and a few students showed off their dance moves.

Fifth grade is a fun place to be! Happy Monday!

  1. I think this would be one of those songs that would get stuck in my head. I’d wake up on a Saturday morning way too early and this would be my first thought. It has happened with Cat Party from Go Noodle.

  3. I’m not sure that chicken nuggets could inspire to rise and shine, but the fresh brewed coffee helps me. I appreciated the way you captured the Monday morning getting out of bed struggle!

  4. Love this moment! You created a classroom community that even cheers YOU up! What a fun idea, to challenge your students to find a song to match with lunch. So fun. I’m in a waiting room right now so I can’t listen, but I will ASAP😄
Oh, and so well written! Shows the transformation of the day, and I love the closing.
