I heard my husband go into her room,
Talking to her gently,
Trying to get her awake and dressed for the day.
And then
And then
And then
She quickly flipped over her pillow to find
Her tooth
Her tooth in the baggie from last night
Her tooth
The tooth fairy had not stopped
Crap. Crap. Crap.
The tooth fairy had not stopped!
Crap. Crap. Crap.
The look of shock on her face said it all
And then the tears came, spilling slowly out of her eyes
She rarely cries like this
The look of disappointment
And disbelief
Crap. Crap. Crap.
The tooth fairy had not stopped
I felt like the worst mom in the world
Amelia looked crushed
My husband quickly explained how we were both up late
And the tooth fairy must have seen us
And passed our house
And the tooth fairy would for sure visit tonight
Crap. Crap. Crap.
Did the tooth fairy forget to stop at your house last night?
Because, she forgot to stop at our house
And I feel like the worst mom in the world

Oh no!!!! I bet she’ll come tonight with a note that says, “sorry we missed you” like when UPS has to come back another time with your package. You’re a great Momma!!!!!

One time the tooth fairy forgot to come to our house but then we realized that she left the tooth and the money in another location. She wrote a quick note too when my daughter was getting dressed.
You are not a bad mom. Lots of us forgot once or twice.

Ah! One time I threw away someone’s first tooth they lost and went dumpster diving for it… one of my students told me they got a note from the tooth fairy for missing them too… I agree with the UPS note!! Your care and feelings prove you’re a wonderful mama!!
