Day 24 A Better Day Today
Today one of my full-year student teachers walked through my classroom door for the first time. Over 7 months of school with her (and my other one) being fully remote.
I’m not sure who had a better day. The kids lit up when they saw her. “Ms. _! You are here in person! Yea!” They could see her and hear her so much better. They can’t wait for our second full-year student teacher to join us next week.
Ms. _ had a wonderful day, too. She said it went by so quickly, seeing as she didn’t have to sit and sit and sit all day. There are a bunch of things we have to figure out yet, but she will get at least 6 weeks in person. She is SO excited to have an actual classroom experience, no matter how long it is.
As for me, I had another adult to help work with kids without them having to log into Google Meet. Some of them can get in GM in a flash. Others seem to take 5 or 10 minutes before they are fully ready. It wastes so much time! We didn’t have to do that today. In fact, during math as she was working through protractors with them on the document camera, I was able to help the handful who still are struggling with it. Finally. (Yes, I was a little bit in their bubble, but not for long. And we are all fully masked, thank goodness!)
It’s another readjustment of teaching and learning this year. I’ve lost track of how many times our teaching plan has changed. (This might be 7? 8?) It’s made me nauseous, stressed and unhappy. Although I’m still feeling stress (and a little nervous about getting this to work well for all of us), there is a new emotion that walked through my classroom door today. Happiness.
This slice shares the emotion experienced by students and teachers as returning in-person created. I connected so much to these lines in the last paragraph:
It’s another readjustment of teaching and learning this year.
“ANOTHER”….what a year it has been.
I love how you personified the emotion in the last line – playful and powerful!
there is a new emotion that walked through my classroom door today. Happiness.
